I am pro-life without a doubt. But I am also Pro-choice. Perhaps we are right as Christians that abortion is murder, but do we have a right to force people of other beliefs to follow our "rules?" I was 19 and unmarried when I had my first child, and although the father was by my side, Marriage was out of the question, as there was no lasting love involved. (and by the grace of God, I knew it) I had three more children with the same man before I was 29. The only time I considered abortion was with the last, and that was a fear reaction, as neither myself or the child were supposed to survive. I still feel guilty every time I think about that fleeting thought.
But God was working in my life and did not allow that momentary thought to develop into action. I was able to bring the baby to full term and now she is a happy and healthy 7 year old.
Here is my thought. If I had closed my heart to God and gone through with the abortion, I would have had it in a sterile, safe environment. My first three children would have still had a mother.(which was the whole point, and the reason I momentarily considered) If the act were outlawed, then I would have died trying to protect those three. Evil is present and Murder will happen. Abortionists do not tempt women with their wares. They are not on the street corners with overcoats and coat hangers. Women who abort do not do it out of flippancy or disrespect for life. Overall the decision to abort cost her dearly, and she does not want to do it. But If she makes her decision, the clinics are there for her. They are there, privately, quietly offering protection from Butchers and Infection. This is one issue to fraught with emotion to be handled by anyone but the government. Separation of Church and state was created for issues just like this.

First of all I commend you for having your baby. I would like you to consider a few things. I was once sent to a clinic for high risk pregnancies to get an ultrasound. IMO, the doctor, a specialist, was an abortionist in disguise. It was really scary. We had to a ring a doorbell to get in. The door was locked. I was not looking for an abortion. I DID NOT HAVE ONE. The Doctor had the nerve to tell me, "It is too late to terminate the pregnancy". I got really mad at her. I told her, "Abortion is not an option". The worst part was I still had to pay for the visit.
Remember after 9-11-01 Planned Parenthood of NYC had no abortions. Women didn't want them, not even if they were free. So they do market.
If abortion is murder, then why should it be legal. Why is not offending others more important than saving unborn lives? We have lost 50 million children to abortion. This is a moral and economic catastrophe. Also, women sometimes still die from abortion complications. The media would try to cover this up as would the abortion clinic.
The problem with America today is that we have become desensitized to the horrors of abortion. Why kill the unborn when they have committed not crime. From what have read about those doctors and nurses who left the abortion industry, abortionists are still butchers. Infection can still occur if the woman's intestines are perforated, if parts of the baby are left behind. I have read about abortionists who 'worship money'. In trying to fit more and more customers in, safety goes by the wayside.
The back alley abortion is a myth started by Margaret Sanger. I have never heard of anyone having one.
Separation of Church and State means keeping the government out of the Church. Our founding fathers didn't want to have the American version of The Church of England. Many came here to flee religious persecution. Pres. Jefferson wanted to make sure that all forms of Christianity were legal, as well as other faiths.
If I seem a little confrontational, I'm sorry. I just feel like in this country are loosing sight of what really matters--DEFENDING LIFE!
Good read, thx for posting
gamingThank you for commenting and reading. I am one of those strange people who think that separation of church and state is a two way street, and the church, to some extent, must be kept out of the government as well as the government out of the church. I cannot ask my neighbor to not trespass on my land if I were dancing on his lawn, could I? I just think that our job as christians is to defend life without imposing laws which take away rights which were already given.

@judythegeek - The trouble is Roe Vs. Wade was a Supreme Court Decision. If you are worried about taking away the rights of others, I agree with you. The problem is that the rights of the Unborn were taken away with the Roe Vs. Wade and Doe Vs, Bolton. The unborn are 'nonpersons' legally speaking. Legislation should not be passed by Justices, but by citizens and elected legislators.
The state does interfere in Church matters when our taxes are used to pay for others' abortions and to support Planned Parenthood. I don't know how we can both defend life and not go after Roe Vs. Wade. I think it needs to be a two front thing. States should be allowed to make their own laws and we do need to change hearts and minds as well.
I don't consider the Church taking a stance on social justice issues to be interfering in government matters. I think if clergy are overtly politically active then they are overreaching--if they campaign for a specific candidate by name.
@romic@xanga - ok, i can see your point. I am just an oddly liberal woman, who's personal values are very conservative. Which puts me between a rock (my conservative side)and a hard place (my liberal politics) But I do see that roe v wade needs to be overturned, and that if we leave it to smaller governments, the voters will get more consideration. :)
